Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 July 2026
In short: the countfu app keeps your practice data on your device and in your own iCloud account. We run no server of our own, we have no accounts or logins, and the app contains no third-party tracking or advertising code. This page explains that in full, and covers the countfu.com website too.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data countfu.com ("Countfu", "we", "us") handles when you use the Countfu iOS app and the countfu.com website, why, who else is involved, and the rights you have. Countfu is listening practice for Chinese numbers.
Who we are
The service is operated under the name countfu.com. We are the data controller for the limited personal data described below. You can reach us at support@countfu.com. Where this policy refers to the GDPR, it applies to users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.
The app
The Countfu iOS app is designed to keep your data with you. There is no account to create and no login. Here is where your data lives.
Your practice data
Your in-app activity stays on your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, syncs privately through Apple's iCloud using CloudKit's private database. This includes your practice progress, the mistakes you make (so you can review them), your statistics (streak, accuracy, history), your settings, and your subscription status. This data is stored under your own Apple ID in your own iCloud account. We operate no server, we do not receive a copy, and we cannot read it. If you are not signed in to iCloud, the data simply stays on your device and does not sync. See Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles iCloud data.
Purchases
Countfu Pro is an auto-renewable subscription bought through Apple's App Store using In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment; we never see or store your card details. Your entitlement is tied to your Apple ID and is restored by Apple, not by us. The app keeps only a small record of your subscription status on your own device (and in your private iCloud) so it knows whether Pro features are unlocked. We store no purchase or payment records on any server of ours.
App analytics
The app uses only Apple's own App Analytics, the aggregate, privacy-preserving measurement Apple provides to developers. It is not linked to your identity and we receive it only in aggregate. You can turn it off on your device under Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Share With App Developers. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily practice reminder, the notification is scheduled locally on your device by iOS. No data leaves your device to make this work, and there is no push server involved.
The website
The countfu.com marketing website is separate from the app and does use some standard web measurement.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics (via Firebase) to understand how the website's pages are used so we can improve them, for example which guides get read and which links are followed. This records standard analytics data such as page views, approximate location, device and browser type, and the interactions above. Automated testing traffic is excluded.
When you email us (for support or feedback), we receive your email address and your message, hosted by Zoho Mail, and use them only to reply and to handle your request.
Sharing and processors
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that make Countfu work: Apple (App Store payments, iCloud and CloudKit sync, App Analytics), Google (Firebase and Google Analytics, and website hosting), and Zoho (email). Each processes data under its own terms and security measures. Your in-app practice data is not shared with us or anyone else; it stays in your device and your iCloud.
International transfers
Countfu is operated from Australia and the website runs on cloud infrastructure located in the United States and other regions. If you are in the EEA or the UK, the limited website data described above may therefore be transferred outside your home country. Where such transfers occur, they rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent UK mechanisms, as provided by the processors listed above.
Retention
Your in-app practice data is kept for as long as you keep it; you control it directly (see the next section). Website analytics are retained under Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
Your choices and rights
You are in control of your app data: you can reset your progress and settings inside the app, sign out of iCloud to stop syncing, or delete the app to remove its data from your device. Deleting from iCloud is done through your iCloud storage settings.
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you (chiefly a support email, since your practice data never reaches us), to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to data portability. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email support@countfu.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
Countfu is not directed at children and is intended for use by people learning Chinese. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated through the service where appropriate.
